When you step into Nami Nara Republic, you will see a forest of tall trees. Take a walk in the cool shades and you wil find a picture book playground, restaurants, Metasequoia tree path, and Hotel Jeonggwanru, in that order. You can take a leisurely walk or rent a bicycle or electric vehicle to explore the area. Rent a bike and ride along the Metasequoia tree path, needle fir path, gingko tree path, and birch tree path while enjoying the river breeze to forget about the summer heat.
You should also remember that there is the tomb of General Nami at Nami Island. Nami Island was originally not and island and was part of Chuncheon, but it became an island with the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944. General Nami was sent to exile at Nami Island after being wrongfully accused for treason because of a ploy by Yoo Ji-gwang during the reign of King Yejong during the Joseon Dynasty. The tomb here is fake and the real one is located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do.

Go along the bending road and head towards Wonju Museum SAN. This was designed by the world-acclaimed architect Ando Tadao. Museum SAN is an artwork that combines light, water, rocks, nature and architecture into one and it looks like a scene right out of a fairy tale. The Water Garden that has Seosan pepple stones that turn black when touching water will make visitors feel as if they are walking in the air as they enter the exhibit. While taking a slow walk, the lines of the buildings and sculptures reflecting on the water according to the angle of light will put you in awe. In the exhibit is the work of James Turrell who usually works with light.

Lee Hyo-seok’s novel is always mentioned when talking about Pyeongchang. The setting of the novel is Bongpyeongjang. While the 400 year old Bongpyeongjang has now lost much of its luster, the community came together to preserve tradition and remodel the market. It is recommended to taste buckwheat cuisine, which is a speciality of Bongpyeongjang, and take a stroll while thinking about Bongpyeongjang written in the novel from long ago.

Mooee Gallery is located just 10 minutes away from Bongpyeongjang. The closed school that was left with a longing feeling and a sense of void was transformed into a beautiful exhibit area where artists in various fields such as painting, sculpture and ceramics came together. The field that was filled with rusty facilities became an outdoor sculpture park and the abandoned area in the back of the school was turned into a kiln for baking traditional ceramics. The interesting experience programs for children make this a great place for family outings. Like white buckwheat flowers containing pure beauty with the cool autumn breeze, the buckwheat flower studio that displays works from the past 30 years, and others such as Mooee studio and Soha studio fill the art gallery like butterflies coming to the beautiful hill of Bongpyeong.
