The Wonju International Walking Festival will be held from October 12 to 13 in Wonju. The main highlight of the festival is the walking program made up of 3-, 5-, 10-, 20-, and 30-km walking courses and the special Chiaksan Moonlight Course.
The 3-km course consists of a moderate walking path easy enough for children, elders, and people with disabilities, whereas the 5-km course takes participants through Wonju Jungang Park. The 10-km course covers the Musil-dong area on the 12th, passing by Musil Sports Park, while the course follows the Wonjucheon Stream to Innovation City and back to Wonju Sports Complex on the 13th. Advance courses, the 20- and 30-km trails, cover the trekking and walking paths along Chiaksan Mountain, Maeji Forest Trail, Haenggu Waterfront Park, and Innovation City. Those who are interested in a nature-friendly walk can sign up for the Chiaksan Moonlight Course, a course that takes participants through a fir forest along Guryongso Valley and Guryongsa Temple.
The advance courses and Chiaksan Moonlight Course require pre-registration by October 2 on-site at the event management office or via e-mail. Advance course participants can take a one-way shuttle bus to the starting point for 3,000 won; the bus will depart Wonju Chiak Gymnasium at 07:30 and 09:00 for the 30-km course and the 20-km course respectively.
Besides the walking programs, the festival allows visitors to take advantage of booths that provide simple health check-ups, food vendors, and hands-on activities.
