This New Orleans Studio Apartment is Located in a 140-Year-Old Bakery Compound
I first viewed the property on a whim, while searching for smaller renovation projects. I first put eyes on what the MLS described as a “bakery compound.” The confusing barrage of photos online did the property no justice—some areas renovated/ some decrepit/ all mysterious spaces.
My apartment is one of three historic buildings on the property—an original oven, carriage house, and corner store for 1872s Meyer’s Bakery. Every room was seeped in decrepit charm and the courtyards and yards were like an untamed oasis. Through renovation my company was able to restore the historic treasures, while modernizing.
Most days the spacious studio accommodates just my 10-pound rescue dog and I, but the large kitchen island and multiple courtyards make the space surprisingly special for entertaining.
